About H.E.R.I.

Home Education Resources & Information

H.E.R.I exists to encourage and empower homeschooling families across Northeast Florida to succeed in their educational endeavors.

Since 1985

H.E.R.I. is a volunteer organization serving homeschoolers (home educators) in Jacksonville and the northeast Florida region.

Essentially, we are a community of individual families that may or may not be a part of another support group or home-based private school and as such offer unlimited opportunities for serving and encouraging one another..

Our History

Home Education Resources and Information, better known as H.E.R.I. (hurry) was established in 1985 to provide support and communication between homeschoolers. Soon after the FL Home Education law was enacted, H.E.R.I. provided support to home educators registering with the superintendent’s office, as well as those registering with 600 schools (non-traditional private schools).

H.E.R.I. began with the Home Forum, its newsletter, which provided a vehicle for communication between homeschoolers. Other services were added as volunteers surfaced and needs became evident.

H.E.R.I. is a non-profit corporation organized for all homeschoolers. H.E.R.I. is NOT a school, or in any way a legal covering for home educators. Information is provided, but homeschooling parents bear the ultimate responsibility for establishing their homeschool programs within the boundaries of the law. All parents considering homeschooling should thoroughly research and read all guidelines and laws before beginning.

Our Mission

To promote relationships within the home education community by providing resources, information, seminars, and services.

H.E.R.I is a non-profit corporation organized for educational purposes to assist home educators and to promote the welfare of children in their home and community. Our membership is open to all who would be interested in the benefits of a H.E.R.I. membership. Because we are a volunteer organization that operates under Christian principles, we reserve the right to pray before, during, and after any and all activities or meetings, in the name of Jesus Christ.

God has directly created humans in His image. Imago Dei refers to the biblical doctrine that all people, regardless of race, gender, varying degrees of physical ability, or socio-economic class are created in the image of God. All humans must be considered equal, because they all originate from the first humans, Adam and Eve, who were created by the divine Creator. Imago Dei extends to people of other faiths and even to those whose viewpoints or beliefs are opposed to Christianity; therefore, all people are to be treated with respect and dignity.

Biblical love is one of the defining marks of all true followers of Christ; therefore, this love of God compels us to love our neighbors as ourselves, love and pray for our enemies, greet strangers, help those in need, and treat others as we would like to be treated, even those who partly or completely disagree with a Biblical worldview.

H.E.R.I. is a VOLUNTEER organization. The quantity and quality of services or events provided is in direct proportion to the response and availability of members who volunteer.
